Position Overview
The Department of Anthropology invites applications from suitably qualified academics for the position of Lecturer in Physical/Biological Anthropology. Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning

Provide high-quality teaching in Physical/Biological Anthropology, including Forensic Anthropology.

Teach quantitative research methods (highly advantageous).

Develop course materials for online, blended, and in-person delivery.

Engage in continued professional development and adopt innovative pedagogical approaches.
Research & Supervision

Conduct independent, publishable research aligned with departmental focus areas.

Supervise Honours, Master’s, and PhD students, depending on qualification level.

Contribute to interdisciplinary research across sciences and humanities.
Academic Administration
-
Participate in departmental administration and university governance.

Contribute to committee work, curriculum development, and academic planning.

Provide academic leadership where applicable.
Community Engagement

Contribute to research and teaching activities with a strong community engagement focus.

Participate in initiatives that strengthen relationships between the University and local communities.
Minimum Requirements
-
PhD in Physical/Biological Anthropology (candidates with a PhD under examination may be considered).

Teaching experience at university level.

Familiarity with online teaching, marking, and blended learning (or willingness to acquire skills immediately).

Experience in Physical/Biological Anthropology and/or Forensic Anthropology.

Ability to teach quantitative research methods (strong advantage).

Demonstrated research experience.

Ability to supervise postgraduate students; prior supervision experience advantageous.

Evidence of administrative or leadership involvement in academic or related environments.

Remuneration
Lecturer:

Basic Pensionable Salary: R667,972 per annum
